Soil water retention and runoff for flood modelling on an island without a soil survey, guided by uncertainty.
Published

October 1, 2026

The island has never had a soil survey, yet flood models need to know how much water the soil holds and how much runs off. What makes this project different is that uncertainty propagation guides every step: the hydropedological assumptions, the models, and the decisions built on them.

Our free hydrologic soil group tool applies the standard NRCS rules to a single soil. The project goes further, with no soil survey to start from and uncertainty carried through and informs every step.
